The “E” Story Project

What is it?

The E Story project is school-wide, cross-curricula writing activity that allows students to practice language arts, reading, writing, and listening skills. The project utilizes The Standards of Learning objectives for writing, oral language and Computer/Technology, grades 6-8.

How it works.

The project began with one story starter, to which the students have added one or more sentences each week. Teachers are sending and receiving the continuing story via school email or the student folders. The project director, Ms. Mond, CEL Library Media Specialist, continuously edits the story each week, with the students’ new sentences or paragraphs. Students will receive illustrated and bound copies of The E Story, prepared by members of the schools’ Safe Harbor

Extension

Students will have the opportunity to enter a contest where they will create individual stories from story starters. Students will select the story starters at random and will be given a graphic organizer to assist them with writing. The contest begins on October 27, 2003 and ends on November 7, 2003.

Congratulations

Wonderful writing has transpired from the story starter below. I received approximately 20 simple sentences the first week. I am now receiving well-developed paragraphs and the story is up to nine pages. C.E.L. students ROCK!

Story Starter

"Darkness surrounded us like a coal mine during a blackout. Rain slashed at tree limbs, slicing through leaves and sending them fluttering toward the earth. We were no longer sure where we were.
